I transcribed the 1837 to 1901 Garthwaite General Registration Birth records in July 2006. The district with the highest number of births is Darlington, 9% of all Garthwaite births during that time being registered there, followed by Huddersfield with 8% and Stockton with 7%. The majority are in the North East and Yorkshire regions.
The most popular name for a boy is John, occurring 90 times, followed by William (61 times) and Thomas (46 times). The most popular name for a girl is Mary occurring 74 times, followed by Elizabeth (61 times) and Margaret (29 times).
