I transcribed the 1837 to 1901 Garthwaite General Registration Birth records in July 2006. The district with the highest number of births is Darlington, 9% of all Garthwaite births during that time being registered there, followed by Huddersfield with 8% and Stockton with 7%. The majority are in the North East and Yorkshire regions.
The most popular name for a boy is John, occurring 90 times, followed by William (61 times) and Thomas (46 times). The most popular name for a girl is Mary occurring 74 times, followed by Elizabeth (61 times) and Margaret (29 times).
As this information has been manually copied from indices, it should only be used to identify the year and quarter for a record. Check the original index before ordering any copy certificates. An asterisk denotes an illegible character. The indices for quarter 2 1838, quarter 3 1845, quarter 3 1854 and quarter 1 1893 did not contain any Garthwaite births.
